My first blog post!
October Headlines: Autumn leaves, engines, and spooky paws
As Spooky season draws to a close and the autumn leaves start to disappear, it's been an incredible, eventful October behind the lens. This month truly had it all — from witchy woodland portraits to adrenaline-fueled motocross action shots. Read all about it below!
Spooky Season Fun: Halloween Dog Portraits
The annual Christmas mini shoots are always popular, so this year, I decided to launch the Halloween dog shoots! They were a highlight of the month — and honestly, how could they not be? From the spectacular themed collars and leads to the adorable doggy outfits, every furry friend brought their own personality to the shoot.
The trickiest part wasn’t getting the lighting right — it was getting the dogs to stay still long enough for a perfect shot! But with some patience, treats, and a lot of funny moments, we managed to capture portraits that combine spooky and cute perfectly. These sessions are always such a joy; and a lovely way to connect with clients and their beloved pets. Thank you to everyone who came along. Special mention to Freddie who is always the perfect poser!
What do killers do in their spare time?- Maddie's shoot
The spooky vibes continued with a model shoot set deep in the woods. The trees were at their best colours: gorgeous golds, coppers, and reds coating the trees and carpeting the woodland floor. However, for this shoot we were going with something a little more creepy, so we headed towards the rich evergreens- the perfect setting. This kind of cinematic theme isn’t something I usually do, but that made it all the more exciting. It was also mine and Maddie's first time working together and we had a discussed our vision in the days leading up to the shoot. Safe to say that came to life very quickly!
We had the perfect backdrop and Maddie stepped effortlessly into character. From the warm glow of a pumpkin prop (courtesy of a phone torch haha) to the sharp edge of a (fake!) bloodied knife, we captured both sides of halloween, terrifying and witchy!
Speed, adrenaline and lots of noise: A Motocross Shoot
Then came something completely different — the roar of engines replacing the quiet woodland. This motocross shoot was pure energy from start to finish! Dust clouds, flying mud, and the sound of revving bikes made for a complete change of pace.
Capturing speed and motion is something I always take enjoyment in, every shot really does tell a story. I tried my best to capture every jump, corner and moment the riders experienced. Timing was everything — blink and you’d miss the perfect jump. I also had fun experimenting with videography, something I'm really working on at the moment! Thak you to Ethan for inviting me down.
A great community: GB Bootcamp Ipswich Shoot
To round out the month, I had the chance to photograph a fitness group session. Despite the early, cold start, the sense of community was amazing and everyone was so lovely. With music playing, members cheering each other on and the beautiful morning light, it truly was such a lovely environment. The owner of GB Bootcamp, Keith Garr, put a post on Facebook looking for a photographer and I was happy to help! I'm looking forward to seeing the growth of GB Bootcamp in the coming months and years, what an amazing group!
Looking Ahead
October has been a total mix of work and I love it! — from playful puppies to a crazy motocross track, I've loved every bit. Each shoot challenged me in different ways and reminded me why I love what I do: the chance to tell so many different stories through my lens. You can see the results of all these shoots over on my socials. Thank you to everyone who has featured here this month.
Going into November, I have lots of shoots booked capturing the last of the Autumn leaves. Check back here next month to see what I got up to!
